Welcome to the U8's web page.
Boys and girls from school year 3 are invited to join our
team. Previous experience of playing rugby is not necessary; our
emphasis is on fun and enjoyment and we actively embrace the rugby for
all philosophy.
OUR AIMS
Our aim is to encourage all children to enjoy an active outdoor sport
with the emphasis on ,safety fun sportsmanship and the development of
skills. We use the RFU policy on training ,A.P.E.S.active
purposeful, enjoyable and safe. Our lead coaches are level 1 qualified
and provide a progressive programme to advance all the players, no-one
is stream lined into certain positions. Training sessions work on the
principle off 'Whole',' Part','Whole'. In other words "whole" means
letting the players have a go after explaining what they need to do; we
then break the exercise down into a skill technique "part" and
encourage the players to demonstrate to each other before building it
back into "whole", where we should see an improvement in their
play. It's a well recognised technique and we have seen the benefit for
our players.
WHERE?
We meet at Hooks Lane ,Havant at 9.55 for a 10am start, Sunday mornings
throughout the season from the first Sunday in September through to
the end of April. Training sessions take place in all weathers except
severe frost or very water logged pitches when it is not safe to
play. A full fixture list detailing training and match/festival
locations for forthcoming weeks can be found on this website.
WHAT TO WEAR
As we play in all weathers appropriate clothing is essential for your
child. Layers of T shirts [long sleeved always a good idea] ,or a rugby
skin, worn under a rugby top is ideal. Hats and gloves in very cold
weather and a change of dry clothing and a towel when very wet is
advisable. Footwear must adhere to RFU regulations and rugby studs ,not
football studs ,must be worn.
Parents need to wrap up warm too and whilst we can offer warm
refreshments from the club house at very reasonable prices, please
ensure you are dressed for the weather as we require our parents to
stay at pitch side and support their child!.
MATCHES ,GAMES AND FESTIVALS
As well as training, we have matches against other clubs at home and
away see our fixtures drop down]. We also play at festival
tournaments, where we play up to four other club sin a knockout
tournament. The festivals are day long events and some travelling may
be necessary. The festivals are extremely good FUN
Matches and training are played in all weathers, an early morning email
or text will be sent if conditions are unsuitable for play. Contact
numbers or email addresses are helpful to advise you of cancellations
or events of interest.
